Deep fences keep out groundhogs
Groundhogs are easy catch in live traps. First, make sure that your trap is clean and in good working condition. Place the trap as close to the groundhogs entrance as possible. If there is more than one entrance, cover the remaining holes to force the groundhog to use the hole nearest the trap. If the groundhog is living under a deck, shed or porch, you may have to board up most of the area to force the groundhog out to a certain area. This will allow you to place the trap directly in front of the opening which will allow you to capture the animal quickly. *Bait -*Use fresh apples, pumpkin, melons, clover or any item that the groundhog has been eating for bait. Place pieces of bait outside of the trap to get the groundhog to eat before it goes to the trap. Once you have trapped the animal you will need to relocate it at least a mile away from your home. Groundhogs have small territories.
